The Flowers of Summer - from the backyard

July 2021

Jumping Photo

Batka Lake, Duck Mountain, Saskatchewan

Hanging out at Batka Lake. It was a cloudy day but I thought it was worth a jumping photo. Enjoy!

Cozy Evenings

Hanging At The Cabin

A trip over to the cabin at Duck Mountain for the weekend. It was cold and rainy so we had to get a fire going to warm up the cabin. It was a good opportunity to have a couple rounds of backgammon. Plus a nice glass of wine.

Blue Moon

AUG 2021

There was a lovely red moon the other day. I watched it raise up over the lake. There was a reflection of the moon on the lake. I attempted to capture it but the red colour did not show up in my photo.

 ---

A rare seasonal "Blue Moon" wowed skywatchers Sunday (Aug. 22), marking the last time this type of moon will grace the sky until 2023.

The full moon, also known as the "Sturgeon Moon," was not called blue for its color. Rather, it has to do with a scheduling rule that happens during a calendar year with 13 full moons, instead of the usual 12.

If four full moons fall during one season, that's called a Blue Moon. A newer definition also defines a Blue Moon as the second full moon in a month, but that definition did not apply to Sunday's sky show.

Regardless of its name, the moon wowed skywatchers on multiple continents, as an informal survey of Twitter shows below.

Super cool

Electric Car

Dad is excited about a tour in a Tesla electric car. My friend from Vancouver was making a road trip across western Canada and he stopped by my house for a visit.

From a Different Era

Wroxton, Saskatchewan

I stopped to take a look at this Ukrainian Church I’m Wroxton. I had not driven in town in many, many years. The church is still standing but it is getting into a state of disrepair. I wonder if anyone will paint it? A huge flock of pigeons flew away as I walked up to the stairs. The church began in 1905 with a small structure in 1920. And then this current church structure was built in 1950.

Sharing the love

Summer Walks

I like to watch for heart shaped rocks when I am out walking. I always find a few and I thought I would share one with you to share the love. ❤️

Monarch butterfly/ caterpillar

Backyard Fun

We have showy Milkweed growing in the backyard and this summer we found 2 caterpillars on the plants. We watched them grow and eat the Milkweed leaves during the month of July. Now in August we can’t find them anymore. We hope they have made cocoons and turned into butterflies. We haven’t spotted any butterflies in the yard yet but we hope to!

Lazy Summer days

Mom and I are sitting on the deck listening to the birds and enjoying a cool breeze. It is the first week of August and the sky is smoky. There are wild fires in Northern Saskatchewan and many fires in BC. I am not sure where this smoke is coming from.  But it makes the day cooler as the sun is hidden by a layer of smoky haze.
