Exploring By Foot

Monday, 13 August 2012

There are 34 casinos in Macau and this is a photo of the Galaxy. It is one of the casinos I can see from school, along with the City of Dreams, Hard Rock, The Crown and the Venetian Macau. I was told that the Venetian has the largest casino floor / gambling area in the world. I walked through it today and I was amazed at how large it was.

This is the Venetian Macau. It is a copycat of the Venetian in Las Vegas. It has a canal both outside and inside and it does feel like Venice, Italy.

The City of Dreams does seem appropriate for Macau, since there are so many casinos here.

On Sunday I had a free day to explore the town and I wondered around downtown. I went into some shops and looked around. I bought some food a the local grocery store called the "Park & Shop". I enjoyed looking at all the candies from Japan! It brought back many memories of living in Japan. I was most excited to be able to find Pocari Sweat!!! My favourite drink from Japan. I know it is hard to understand why I would drink something called "sweat". But it is really just a case of lost in translation. This is a sports drink that is suppose to replace all the electrolytes lost when sweating from sports. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pocari_Sweat)

Anyhow, I was excited to be able to find many different Japanese products at the store. I found a few other interesting stores to look in. I also walked through the old town of Taipa and here I found lots of restaurants and candy shops. I found a Thai restaurant, a curry house, a Japanese sushi restaurant and a gelato shop. Looks like I will be hanging out in this area a lot!!! There was also a little outdoor flea market with lots of knick knacks.
