Sharp Peak

Thursday, 3 August 2017

At the start of July I had a chance to go on a hike in Sai Kung. I went up to the top of Sharp Peak. Basically it is that very sharp point. The weather was cloudy and at the summit of the peak the rain started. I ended up coming down in a large stream of water. At times the water was up to the top of my socks. I was totally soaked by the end of this hike.

Sharp Peak is 468m high and it is famous for 360 views looking over to Mainland China. Of course when I got to the top the clouds had rolled in and the rain started so there was no view. There was also no interest to stay at the top of that mountain. It was a 15km hike so a good day of walking even I did get rained on. Luckily by the end of the hike I was almost dry.

"The mountain bears an alternative name: Nam She Tsim (蚺蛇尖). Nam she, in Chinese, refers to pythons. Some people say the name arose as the place was home to a particularly large tropical snake, while others say it was meant as a reference to the winding and rugged mountain path."
