The Longest Travel Day

The Long Way Home

Wow, what a day. We started the day with our alarm going off at 4am. We quickly showered and gathered our bags and headed out as our taxi was picking us up at 4:45am. We arrived to the airport in Colombo at 5am. We got checked in and then found a coffee shop for breakfast and some free WIFI.

No upgrades to business class this time. Bummer, we would have liked the extra space to have a nap. Oh well, we had a 3 hour flight to KL and arrived there safely. The next excitement was that we needed to transfer from the KLIA to the LCC airport, which is about 18km away. Luckily we still had a few Malaysian ringgets left. We got to the LCC (low cost carrier) airport and got checked in to our flight to Hong Kong. We even had time for a smoothie from Booster Juice! Lucky.

We finally boarded our plane at 5:00pm and began our journey to Hong Kong. It was a 4 hour flight which went smoothly. It just seemed like we were on the plane for a long time. Plus I missed dinner, as I didn't want to pay for the airline food.

In Hong Kong we encountered our first hiccup. We missed the last Macau ferry. Well, we didn't miss the ferry it leaves in an hour. But we missed the cut off for baggage and without our suitcase we could not take the airport ferry. This is disappointing. Now we are on the Airport Express train and headed into downtown Hong Kong. Dad will be an expert at navigating Hong Kong by the end of his holiday! We have to make our way to the main ferry terminal and catch the ferry from there which adds about 2 hours on to our journey home. This makes for a very long travel day. However, I guess we will make it and all will be well. We did get our suitcase so we have our luggage. That is a bonus!
