Day 6 in Sri Lanka.
Time is going quickly. We are now in the south visiting the Udawade Game Park. We are hoping to join the evening safari tonight to see some wild elephants. This park is one of the best parks for viewing elephants. We are staying a a very cool camp that is just on the edge of the park. Last night at dinner we could hear the this strange noise and our guide told us that it was the call of a fish cat. The fish cat is a small leopard. It looks just like a leopard only mini. It only comes out a night and it is very rare. On our walk this morning we saw the tracks of a fish cat. We are hoping we might spot one tonight.
We are staying in a mud hut. It is nice an cool and spacious which is nice. We have mosquito nets over our beds. Plus we have a fan which we found out that we needed when we both woke up at 12am sweating. We are the only guests staying at this lodge so it is fun to have our own private space.
There are lots of wildlife opportunities here with little lizards in the trees, birds, squirrels and monkeys. Yesterday while we where sitting out side of our mud hut the monkeys came to the trees right in front of us and we got to watch this family of monkeys play in the trees. It was exciting and fun to watch the babies make these amazing leaps from branch to branch.
It is hot here. It is 11:30am now and the sun is out full force. It is 35C and too hot to be in the direct sun. We are hiding in the shade drinking beer and relaxing before we head out for a trip to the game park.
It is so relaxing here and peaceful. We can hear the river rushing below us and the birds calling out in the trees. It is a special place.
