We are at Blue Field Tea Factory on Mount Harrow in Sri Lanka. We just had a lovely little tea break inside where we sampled the BOP. This stands for broken orange pekoe. We also had a yummy piece of chocolate cake. Our guide snapped this photo for us before we climbed back into the car to continue our journey though the mountains to the south of Sri Lanka.
We did visit the gift shop before we left the tea plantation since we know a few family members that enjoy drinking tea. We thought they might enjoy the tastes of Sri Lanka tea. Let's hope that we are correct.
The views from the Blue Fields was fantastic. Every bit of hillside has been planted with tea and we could watch the tea pickers move through the green hedges collecting tea leaves. The workers wear a bag that is wrapped around their head and strapped to their back. They pull the leaves from the hedges and then drop them into the bags. At the end of the day the bags are weighed and this is how the worker is paid. Most of the workers are women.
