When the doctor said, "Nothing broken, you just have bruised ribs." I gave the biggest sigh of relief. I thought for sure something was broken as I was having so much trouble trying to breath. I guess I am lucky. I don't know. Let me back up the story. I was Kuala Lumpur and traveling to the airport in a taxi to catch my flight back to Macau. I had only been in the taxi for about 4 blocks when we drove through an intersection and another car "T-boned" us.
I didn't even see the other car coming. I was busy sitting in the backseat of the cab drinking a latte that I had just bought at a coffee shop. My roommate screamed, since she saw the car coming right for us, and then it was chaos. My coffee was dumped all over the taxi, along with covering me & my roommate in a sticky latte mess. Our luggage that was mostly crowded in the backseat with us was also thrown around. I don't really know what happened to me but I guess I must have slammed into the arm rest that was between me and my roommate in the back seat.
Then next thing I know we are standing on the sidewalk, all these local taxi drivers are trying to help us by stacking our luggage on the sidewalk beside us. I am holding my ribs and complaining that I can't breathe. My roommate takes charge and tells one of the taxi drivers that we need to go to the hospital. So we are loaded into a new cab and whisked away. We ask if we need to stay and talk to the police or fill out any paper work, but we are told not to worry about it.
At the hospital I get chest x-rays and find out that I am fine. My roommate has to get stitches for a cut on her arm. We spend 4 hours at the hospital and miss our flight back to Macau. So we have to phone the airline and purchase new tickets for a flight the following day. Good thing I have a visa card. We pay our hospital bill before we leave. Mine was 80 Malaysian ringgit, which is about $40 Cdn, very reasonable in my opinion.
We spend an extra night in KL and finally get back home to Macau on Sunday night. It was a little more adventure than I had expected. Now I just have to wait for my bruised ribs to heal. I am curious how long this process might take.
