Hangzhou Street Food

Thursday, 14 November 2013

Last weekend the volleyball team and I traveled to Hangzhou for a tournament. We spent 5 days in Mainland China enjoying the hospitality of our host school HIS. The girls and the boys teams both placed 3rd out of 6 visiting teams. It was a good tournament with some highlights that included cheering on the girls as they battled it out on the court and of course the evening adventures in street food. There was a alleyway behind our hotel that had all these food venders. There was the dumpling lady - clearly a favourite - from the photo below. These chive & garlic dumplings were made fresh at her cart and then she would boil them in this huge vat of water & broth. Next she would put them into a take away bowl along with a bunch of fish flakes, chilies, onions, vinegar, soya sauce and hot sauce. Yum!
