Visiting Temples - Wat Suan Dok

Sunday, 2 February 2014

Here I am at Wat Suan Dok. It was built around 1345 and over the years it has several renovations. The most recent renovation was to retore the tower behind me and also cover it in gold. This Wat was beautiful and it was stunning to see the white towers with the dark blue sky behind. This Wat was a short bike ride outside of the "old town" or walled city of Chiang Mai. It is free to enter the temple grounds you just have to take off your shoes and keep your shoulders and knees covered.

I enjoyed walking around and exploring the temple grounds. Don't tell my dad, but they actually had a polling station set up in the parking lot of this temple. Today is the national election for Thailand so I guess this is one of the areas that Thai people can come to for voting. It was very quiet and we didn't see many people in the voting tents. We did try to steer clear of this area and just go into the Wat. It is another wonderful day in Thailand. Good to be back. I feel blessed to return to this lovely country once again.
