As the plane began the decent into Luang Prabang I got my first glance at the Mekong river. It really is a large river at over 4,000 km in length. It flows through Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, China, Myanmar, Vietnam. This website has some interesting information about the Mekong: http://www.internationalrivers.org/campaigns/mekong-lancang-river

As I was walking back to my hotel one afternoon I saw this girl walking towards me. She is wearing her school uniform. Laotian women always wear skirts and we were told that to be respectful we should also wear skirts or dress when visiting, however they must reach past our knee caps.

Of course your visit to Luang Prabang is not complete without going to the night market. Ladies set up their stalls and sit outside all evening waiting for customers. The main street is closed from 6 - 10pm when the night market is open. There is lots to look at and buy from bedding, scarfs, purses, shoes, t-shirts, paintings, carvings, slippers, hand made books, jewelry, pillow cases, bags and wall hangings. It is fun to see all the different stalls and ladies working at the stalls. Of course I was able to find a few treasures to bring back home with me.
