Volunteering in Laos

Friday, 26 October 2012

Today I taught a lesson on food chains and food webs. I was working with some Laotian teachers to give them some new and interactive ways to teach a simple Science lesson. Everyone had to wear an animal name tag and then we had to move around to decide which animal would eat which animal. I had a few good laughs when we had some interesting ideas about what animals eat each other. I think everyone enjoyed this activity. It was a lot of fun and it lead to a good discussion about why interactive learning works for children. How can learning be more than just listening to the teacher speak? This was a great activity to highlight how learning can be fun! Students can be involved in their learning.
