On my way to the “Cuppa Coffee” shop I pass by this large tree and it has has this sign attached to the tree. I have seen this same sign on other trees in other areas of Macau as well. Today I decided to take a photo of it. I have not idea what this sign says but I imagine that it is telling people to respect the tree and to keep the tree safe. Maybe this sign tells people what kind of tree this is and how helpful this tree is in creating clean air for us to breathe. Macau is often engulfed in a smog. The clouds roll in and keep this layer of heavy clouds and smog hanging above the city.
I look at this sign and I see a magical tree man. He is sort of creepy and strange. To me it looks like he has an afro and a moustache and with his round glasses he seems like he is from the 1970’s. He seems like a strange mascot for saving trees. Just another weird and wonderful thing about living in Macau. I will add it to my list of “things I don’t quite understand”, or as I often hear my self saying: “That must be lost in translation.” This list is growing by the day.
