My First Visit to Hong Kong

Monday, 22 October 2012

I wanted to share a few stories about my trip to Hong Kong. It is just a short1 hour ferry ride from Macau to Hong Kong. The crossing was a little rough and there were some good sized waves. I saw a group of students from my school on the ferry. They were going to Hong Kong to complete in a sailing competition. I arrived in Hong Kong and realized that it is a little different than Macau. Macau seems like a sleepy town compared to the hustle and bustle of the city. The first challenge that I had was trying to find my way out of the massive shopping complex that the ferry terminal is attached to. I had to navigate my way through 7 levels and many escalator trips to get spit outside on the street level. Next challenge was to find the Starbucks where I was suppose to meet my girlfriend. Thank goodness for cell phones. We were able to find each other after a few text messages.

I was surprised how many westerns that I saw in Hong Kong and I was surprised by the Mark & Spenser stores. There was a British feel to the central part of the city. I loved the dim sum restaurant that my friends took me to. I ate the best sweet pork buns ever!!!! Yum. We took the star ferry across to go for dinner and I got a chance to see the skyline of Hong Kong. It is very beautiful.

I enjoyed Hong Kong, although it was a little hard on the wallet. It is easy to spend money in the city. I think one of my favourite parts of the city was riding the tram. We sat upstairs on the top deck and I had a view of all the different districts of the city that we went through. I will be back to Hong Kong for sure. It reminded me of Tokyo with crowds of people and bright lights at night.
