Check out this guy! I think it is one of the Common Asia Toads that I have seen before on the nature trails. However, this time I was walking home from Old Taipa and I walked past this guy. There was a cement and rock wall and this guy was just hanging out. I managed to take one photo but I did use my flash and I think I probably blinded this poor toad. He disappeared right after I snapped this photo. I bet he still has the flash burning in his eye balls when he blinks. I do see a lot of critters out on the sidewalks at night. Usually it is just the large snails or slugs. Sometimes I see cockroaches and this time a toad!
I was thinking today that it is strange how humans just adapt to their new environment. They change and then after a period of time passes they don’t even realize that they have changed. For example, this morning I went to get in the shower and before I get in the shower I ALWAYS move the shower curtain and rough it up a bit so it makes lots of noise. Most importantly the shower curtain needs to be moved. The reason is due to the resident cockroach who lives in my shower. I always make sure I let him know I am coming and he should move out of way. He does. However, if I don’t move the shower curtain and I surprise him then he is in the shower waiting for me. This surprises me and usually makes me scream. So I have adapted. I now always move my shower curtain and look for bugs before I shower. I have been doing this for almost 8 weeks now. However, only today did I realize that I would never do this action back home in Canada. I realized that I had adapted or changed in my new environment without even realizing that what I was doing would be strange back home.
