The Diaoyu Islands are still a “hot” topic here in Macau. Although I haven’t heard as much about it at school lately it is still a main topic in the news. http://www.chinadaily.com.cn/china/2012Diaoyu/node_1089381.htm
The latest concern is over a visit by the Dalai Lama. The news reports indicate that Beijing has lodged an official protest with Tokyo over the Dalai Lama's trip to Japan. The Chinese feel that Japan is not taking this dispute over the Diaoyu Islands seriously and now they are making the Chinese lose face by inviting the Dalai Lama to visit. There are still tense feelings between these two countries.
I am planning to visit Japan after I finish my practicum in Macau so I am trying to stay informed with the news reports. I don’t always know how much to believe as I feel that I am only hearing one point of view here in Macau. I just hope things are resolved and they don’t heat up to the level of tension that there was in September.
