Do you see what I see?
The other morning I was out walking to find a restaurant for breakfast. I wondered over one of the many bridges and canals in Bangkok. As I was walking over the bridge I heard a big splash so I looked over the edge of the bridge and I saw something sitting on the bamboo logs. I looked closer and wow, it was a massive lizard. I watched him for a while. He was just hanging out on the logs sunning himself. I looked over and I saw another smaller lizard on a different group of logs.
I am guessing these lizards live in the canals. There are probably all kinds of fish for them to eat. Other travelers had told me stories of large snakes and crocodiles living in the canals of Bangkok but I never really believed these stories. Now that I have seen these lizards I think I might starting to believe some of the travel stories that I have heard.
The term monitor lizards is a general one referring to a group of large lizards common in Asia, Africa and the Pacific Islands. These water monitors, part of the monitor family, are commonly seen in Bangkok.
