Mid-Autumn Festival

Friday, 12 October 2012

We recently celebrated the Mid-Autumn Festival in Macau. Macau was decorated in lanterns! Our elementary and middle school students also many lanterns to decorate our gym. This photo is some of the lanterns that the Grade 4 class made. At the school we had a big night for the students to come and celebrate by throwing water balloons at their teachers (I did not volunteer for this station!), play games in the gym like mini golf, ball toss, guess how many jelly beans are in the jar, pick up coins with chop sticks, decorate lanterns.

The highlight of the evening – besides the water balloon station – was hot dogs and moon cakes. I don’t know how to describe moon cakes. Basically they are more like buns with fruit in the middle. They are handed out to all the teachers to celebrate the mid-autumn festival. I am not a big fan of the moon cake, however, by the end of the night I had collected a big pile of them. So I kept trying to find students to give them to. It was sort of funny because students were giving me moon cakes and I was giving moon cakes to students. It was a circle of giving! I survived the night and stayed dry since I didn’t dare go near the water balloon station. Although, I did have a laugh watching from a safe distance.
